Member Spotlight – MoCo Arts

At the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce Annual Gala that took place earlier this year, MoCo Arts was the recipient of the 2018 Windsor Business Brooks Business of the Year award. For almost 30 years, this nonprofit organization has been transforming lives through movement and creative expression.

Reagan Messer, Executive Director/Artistic Director of Dance for MoCo Arts, said that receiving this award is not just due to the past year, but due to the hard work of the community and people involved throughout the history of the organization. He said that staying true to its mission – to transform lives through movement and creative expression - is a reason it continues to be successful.

Messer emphasized that in a MoCo class participants are not just learning skills pertaining to dance and theater, but also important life skills. In addition, the organization believes that students’ economic situations should not prevent them from experiencing the arts.  For this reason, they offer a tuition assistance program and provide costumes for most performances.

Messer attributes much of MoCo’s success to its close bonds with other businesses in the community. He said businesses helping each other improves the community and makes Keene a better place.

MoCo Arts is in the midst of several spring dance and theatre performances featuring elementary through high school-aged children.  Performances are held in their 17,000 square foot arts education center located at 40 Roxbury Street in Keene.
